Huron Soccer Association House League Overview

There are many questions asked in regard to our travel division. Here is some general information for you to review that should answer many of them.

Divisions:

The Huron Soccer Association provides recreational soccer (learning league), for children 4 1/2 - 10 years of age. There are three divisions your child can play on. U6 means the children must be younger than 6 to participate. They must be 4 1/2 by August 1st, of the season to be played and cannot turn 6 before August 1st as well. The same principal applies to our U8 (under 8) and U10 (under 10) divisions. For more details of each division, please refer to that icon on our home page, the date ranges are also on our registration forms that can be downloaded off the website.

League Objectives:

For many children soccer is their first experience of team play. Our house program is focused on basics of playing sports for fun and being a good sport. To that end no score is kept and all children receive trophies/ or awards at the end of the season.

Team Composition:

Our house recreation league is co-ed from the beginning to end. Teams are determined using the following criteria. Boys and girls are divided so that each team consists of equal gender. Ages are factored in so that no team receives a greater number of older players. Efforts are made to have younger and older players dispersed appropriately; however, parental preferences, requests are met when possible, and only if “fair” teams result along with such requests. Our club does not advocate “stacked” teams, as this is our learning league. Therefore, coach requests may not be honored to eliminate unbalanced teams.

Practices:

As in any other sport or league, practices are determined by the VOLUNTEER coach. We encourage coaches to provide 3-4 practices before the onset of the season, yet weather and holidays may infringe on this expectation. Many coaches set their practice nights the same as what the game nights will be. Again, the coach of your child’s team determines that.

Games:

All house games are played at the Willow Metro Park. Willow map available on website. The fall season game schedule traditionally begins the weekend after Labor Day. 8 - 10 games are played before the end of October. There are usually two games set per week. Apple fest weekend is avoided for games in the fall as Memorial weekend is in the spring. The spring season usually kicks off pending on when Easter is. Games begin the last week of April/first of May for spring and wrap up the week before school lets out.

Game schedules have remained the same for the past ten years:
U6 = Monday evenings and Saturday mornings
U8 = Tuesday and Friday evenings
U10 = Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Cost:

The cost to play in house soccer is $65.00 in the fall with a lesser fee ($50.00) paid in the spring for those returning players. The reason being is that the teams remain the same; therefore, a new uniform is not necessary. A soccer year begins in the fall, just like the school year, and continues with a spring season. The rest of the fee is to cover insurance costs, field maintenance, picnic event and awards.
